Public spending in the EU accounts for almost half of GDP and member states spend their money in very different ways. If it was up to the European public, the top priorities for additional government spending would be healthcare, education and reducing income inequality.

Just recently, Germany projected an additional 0.5 per cent of GDP per year to integrate newly arrived migrants. But the European public is less fond: twice as many Europeans want more money to be spent on securing borders than on integrating foreigners into society.
