Brexit – 54% of Europeans want Britain to stay in the EU

Should Britain leave the EU? The country is split. Britons will decide in a referendum on Thursday whether they want to stay or go. But what about the rest of Europe?

According to a European-wide poll among 10.992 Europeans which we conducted for the Bertelsmann Foundation, a slight majority of 54% want Britain to remain in the EU. Only a fifth of Europeans want Britain to leave, and a quarter has no opinion.

Support for British EU membership is highest in Spain, with 64% saying ‘remain’, and lowest in France, where only 41% want Britain to stay. However, in each one of the biggest European countries, the share of people who prefer ‘remain’ is higher than for ‘leave’.
